In the qualifier, Kolkata Knight Riders thrashed Delhi Capitals to reserve their place in the final. In the final match of the Indian Premier League 2012 edition, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was standing against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), two-time champions of the tournament. The final match was more of a rollercoaster ride as both the teams were fighting hard to dominate, and the match was breathtaking.

Chennai Super Kings gave a target of 190 runs at a loss of 3 wickets to Kolkata Knight Riders. In return, KKR scored 192 runs at a loss of five wickets. Players like Manvinder Bisla and Jacques Kallis played outstanding innings of 89 runs and 69 runs respectively, which worked as a boon for the Knight riders. Players like Michael Hussey, Suresh Raina, and Murali Vijay scored great numbers in the game. Coming to that final match, Kings XI Punjab performed very well as the team smashed 199 runs and gave a target of 200 runs to Kolkata Knight Riders. A major contribution from Kings XI Punjab was made by Mana Vohra, who scored 67 runs, and Wriddhiman Saha, who scored 115 runs. Kolkata Knight Riders were already under pressure as it was the final match of the tournament and the target was too big. Manish Pandey single-handedly took Kolkata Knight Riders to the verge of lifting the cup as he scored 94 runs in the game. Kolkata KNight Riders won the match by scoring 200 runs at a loss of seven wickets in 19.3 overs. With this victory, KKR lifted the cup two times.
